The Young and Once Good Pundit

A blog concerned generally with the finest points of politics, popery, poetry, and punditry, from the perspective of a young convert to the Roman Catholic religion.

I now know the greatest, or at least the most relevant saint of modern times. As I read Mancipia (the newsletter of the Crusade of Saint Benedict Center; go to www.catholicism.org for more details), I came across an article mentioning one Saint Gianna Beretta Molla, canonized in 2004. She died because she refused to abort her fourth child, and is thus the truest and most noble martyr of the pro life cause. She deserves our prayers; her feast day is April 28.
Aside from this, my RCIA class is pathetic. For those non-Catholics reading this, that stands for Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults. The touchy-feely class tells us nothing about the evils of abortion, gay marriage, embryonic stem cell research, or any such thing not related to "social justice" and "prejudice". The lousy theologians there brought in an article from the Catholic Observor entitled "Who gets to go to heaven? God's saving plan is available to all". The scruffy priest that wrote the article, answering a reader's question, stretches the catechism and uses lame, emotional reasoning to deny the truth which has been known since the time of Saint Ignatius of Antioch:
Extra ecclesiam nulla salus: There is no salvation outside the church. For proof,

We declare, say, define, and pronounce that it is absolutely necessary for the salvation of every human creature to be subject to the Roman Pontiff- the Bull Unum Sanctam, 1302

Got it, my friends?

Fifty Years from now...
Those words, spoken by my AP US History teacher, make one giddy with hope. By 2050, thing will be doing very well, if we Americans get just three things right. We need to
1. Buy American-made hybrid cars
2. Stop believeng in evolution (go to www.creationscience.com)
3. Go cold turkey from plastic and remember what life before Visa was like
4. Read more of the Wall Street Journal
5. Stop illegal immigration while increasing legal immigration
6. Attend mass or service weekly
and finally 7. Destroy the American Civil Liberties Union once and for all!
If we do all this, we will live in a smoothie of 13th Century Christendom, world economic (benevolent) empire, and the Sierra Club's utopia. Anyways, in this time, you will do well to remember

Let love be without dissimulation. Hating that which is evil, cleaving to that which is good-

I Hate Conspiracy Theories (especially Loose Change)

So, I'm in a liberal class by a liberal teacher, and when he's absent, the most stupid and liberal student tells me all about how President Bush was behind 9/11. Mentioning some evidence from Loose Change, I decided to check it out. Lo and behold. The website of the producers was mostly full of lame, circumstantial evidence, with a clearly explained set of evidence that- gasp- the Pentagon was actually hit by a cruise missile, because of the unusually powerful explosion. All of it added up... until I checked Wikipedia. Their article noted that of 100+
witnesses to the attack, almost all said it was a large airliner; only two said it was a small plane, and no one thought it was a cruise missile. Don't believe me? Check the Wikipedia article (and if you think they are lying check Reference #5, which leads to a conspiracy website which itself disproves the cruise missile theory!)
Of course, the loony conspiracy theorist, who himself openly daydreams of the violent overthrow of the government in class, didn't trust my findings, and ranted on about more government fraud, so I zoned out. Remember, the conspiracy theorists live in their own creepy world, so one cannot disprove their theories with normal evidence?
The reason to detest all conspiracy theories (or most, at least) is that their ideas do not really reflect how the world works. If the US government had really killed 2,750 people, and blamed it on some nice Wahabbi Muslim, then why the heck do liberals ever get anything done. Conspiracy theories, like the one in Loose Change, make the liberals feel like the ultimate victims, and like the impoverished minorities in this nation, they must get up and be serous if they ever want to succeed at anything (I hate giving my foes advice!) A week past, I took a stroll down memory lane, that is, the path from Veteran's field to under the bridge over South Street. The place under the bridge was filled with trash, and covered in graffiti. Among the punk artwork, on a pillar, was a beautiful poem, chipping away. I HAD to save it from the wrath of Time.

The Thaw

Do you remember that first day of spring
When it almost felt like summer?
The thick frost from from months of hibernation began to melt away
In a glistening film of persperation.
On that day, while we sat together in the sanctuary of Pulaski Park,
Only the most exquisite possibilities of life shown through
Vivid and glorious as they danced between the sun's blinding rays;
I saw innocence in your eyes... love in your soul...
And all the world appeared warm
and tangible
jc

Now, is that beautiful, or am I just a preservationist dork?
(jc, wherever the heck you are, thank you for your art!)

I was a-readin' Ezechiel, and 3:20 taught me a great piece of wisdom.

Moreover has the word "oreo" in it!

Besides that, this Knight of Punditry hath given blood today. It is so easy that it is more a duty to society than a good work. Anyhow, this Saint Patrick's day is most fine. It'd be perfect, if only we could get Teddy Kennedy outta office...

Yet another dismal fallout of Atheism (moral relativism)

Upon one's normal skim of the political frontline, an expected "defeat" is being set in motion. The pro choice forces in South Dakota have begun to tap the dregs for signatures to put the late abortion ban on the ballot. What can one say? Three in five South Dakotans oppose the bill, so justice will be given a slap in the face.
This crusader, new to the art of blogging is unashamedly and wholeheartedly pro life. We may have God on our side (thou shalt not kill + science), but the sons of God are often cowards. Luckily, those Knights of Malta among us will one day in this pundit's lifetime be the Ralph Waldo Emersons of the 21st Century: no compromise with slavery, no compromise with abortion. Remember, o' onlooker, the words of the magnificent Barry Goldwater:

I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.
Let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue.

You see. It is not the time to sip cheap beer to American Idol. We must all, in God's name act.
(this being my first blog entry, I hope it didn't put you to sleep!)
